Swing a wand in Google Daydream virtual reality Harry Potter app
Many of us are still waiting for our Hogwarts acceptance letter (my owl got lost for 15 years), but during a Google announcement event on Tuesday, the company revealed that there will be another way to get that wizarding experience. So the days of Harry Potter seem to remain firmly in place!
An app based around Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is headed to Google’s VR headset, Google Daydream. Announced during the Made in Google event, the app will allow users to swing the controller like a wand. And that’s about all we know.
One of the most common responses to the release of the AR app Pokémon Go was the need for a similar experience for Harry Potter fans. The Daydream app is similar, allowing you to go into VR and use the Daydream controller like a wand. It works like a Wii controller, allowing the user to wave it around for three-dimensional movement.
There are few other details available in regards to the app, but you will have a wand, and isn’t that the most important thing?
Google Daydream is set to ship in November. There is no word on a release date for the Harry Potter app, but don’t be surprised if it comes out around the same time as the film. Daydream headsets will cost around $80. Customers can use them with Daydream-ready Pixel phones, which can be pre-ordered starting at around $650.
